Li Zongsheng’s 2014 Concert Called “Now that Youth Can not Be Retained”
Chinese music father Li Zongsheng, after having been away from Beijing for six years, finally announced that he will hold a concert called “Now that Youth Can not Be Retained” in Beijing Gym on Nov. 16. This news, after being just confirmed through microblog, has caused a great external sensation. After participation in the global performance tour of Virgos Super-band in 2009, Li Zongsheng faded out from the front stage and returned to the starting point of music sounding to concentrate on his guitar career. In these years, urban people have been sinking and floating, turning back for numerous times in his love songs. And Li Zongsheng, just like a bottle of old wine, is more mellow, aromatic and purer as he gets older. Those experiencing love baptizing and gradually having perception on life in cities have a particular resonance and they specially give precedence to Li Zongsheng.

In 2006, Li Zongsheng’s concert tour called “Sensibility and Rationality” was held in such places as Taibei, Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong, Shenzhen, Malaysia, etc. with all performances being full-house ones having no empty seat. This concert together with two DVDs called “Sensibility and Rationality” later issued became classic works with excellent reputation, which people liked to mention constantly and take delight in talking about.
After being long parted for six plus years, Li Zongsheng finally decided to hold a large personal concert again and announced that the global concert tour called “Now that Youth Can not Be Retained” will be launched resplendently in Taipei Arena on Sep. 28. Without any early-stage promulgation and bandwagon effect made and created, all tickets for that concert were sold out within three days after opening and it is hard to get a single ticket now. It is known that countless super singing stars, performers within the circle and numerous important people in the cultural sector, media circle bought tickets at their own account to go to Taipei Arena for “pilgrimage” together.
On Nov. 16, the classic works Hill was sung first in the Mainland
In the middle ten days of July 7, Li Zongsheng’s new song called “Hill” that took ten years to complete like “decade of sword” was first launched on web. In as short as one day, it was transferred for tens of thousand times and the click rate perched high. This song was known by net friends as “a song which one should never listen to alone at midnight”. This song also won quickly a program request champion for several weeks running in all major radio stations. Although all people think that Hill is a song that is sad and dreary, touching, Li Zongsheng said: “Hill is my life experience, life feeling, which is not sad at all.” Hill not only touched vast net friends, but also made a lot of star singers sigh with emotion profusely at the same time. Such singers as Liu Ruoying, Yang Zongwei, Mayday Masa, Xin Xiaoqi, etc. published speeches about their feelings on microblog one after another. Liu Ruoying said: “This is Li Zongsheng, who always walks before us, and then tells us about life sorrow and joy by singing for us honestly……perhaps, you may not understand now, but someday, you will find what he wrote is just everyone of us.” From Song for Oneself to recent Hill, each time when Li Zongshen make a move, he could create a classic works that went down in Chinese music circle history. Many lyrics in his works are brought by net friends to taste, share and even used as signature for such social tools as microblog, Wechat, QQ, etc. All major media gave unanimous praises to the new song Hill without exception and wrote music reviews spontaneously. There is even people sighing: “In so many years, nobody can write better than Li Zongsheng!” In face of so many expectations, Li Zongshen showed that he would sing the song Hill for the first time on the stage in the concert in the Mainland on Nov. 16.

On many performance occasions, Li Zongsheng said to fans: “Thank you for listening to me from the time when I was young to that when I have grey temples. Therefore, I am sure to have more valuable things to share with you. There is nothing I can use to thank you all but writing songs for those caring about me and whom I care about to listen.”
Everybody has a Li Zongshen’s song in their heart, maybe it is Be Possessed, maybe it is Song of Ordinary People, maybe it is Cost of Love or When Love Becomes a History. Each of his songs and lyrics can be sung into people’s hearts and bring memories. On Apr. 19, people like us who have been “crossing each hill tirelessly” will go to look up at brother Li Zongsheng standing on the hill top and listen to his songs together. What a happy thing it will be.
