On November 9th,the first Dalian City Retirees Square Dance Competition sponsored by the Dalian Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, guided by Dalian City Office of the Elderly,and organized by Dalian Enterprises Retired Personnel Management and Service Center was held in Damai Center (Dalian Sports Center - Gymnasium) to enrich cultural life of the retirees.

       13 teams from the city's each district and county, and more than 1000 performers and staffs participated. The city's retirees and the students of university of the elderlyperformed songs and dances, showing the positive spirit of the retirees and happy retirement life. The competition consisted of two parts, the first compulsory set of Dalian Cityretirees square dance performance choreographed by the City Retirees Management Center, and theperformances ofthe square dances with thedance music and choreography selected by various districts and counties. After intense competition,Ganjingzi District team, Shahekou District team, Lushunkou District team became the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winners respectively in the end.

       The square dance competition was very popular among the elderly square dance enthusiasts. Aunt Wang, who is nearly sixty, said that she has taken on an entirely new look via the square dance, “seems to be younger for more than 10 years and also feels very happy. "

       The competition aims to stimulate enterprise retirees’ fitness enthusiasm, improve their physical fitness, enrich their cultural life in their spare time, create the good atmosphere of advocating fitness, participating in bodybuilding, and supporting and promoting the healthy development of the national fitness cause. Retirees square dance contest was held for the first time, but the square dance performances in the sports center are not uncommon, as the energetic dance of the elderly were found in"City Sports Festival", "Olympic Fitness Running" and many other activities .
